Arian Romal…Denmark’s Rockstar speaks about his passion in Acting & Singing!

Arian Romal is a famous Indian/Afghan singer, composer, film director and actor. We interviewed Arian on his upcoming projects & debut in Bollywood…

Q Anyone in your family who is in this singing or acting profession?
Arian- No! I am the first one in entertainment rest all are related to the political field. I thank God for it as I can survive this way. My family members are more into education, politics and a different kind of work.

Q Do you like singing and composing?
Arian- Definitely, I love my work and for me its passion and not work no matter how much if people term it as a work. It will be work if you don’t like to do it, but if you do something that you love doing, then end of the day it’s not a work for you. So, I do it like I am living it and doing it. ‘Live your life the way you love to do and all that you dream about’. Sometimes if I feel okay, I like this project that’s when I decide to do it.

Q Was singing and dancing your passion ever since childhood?
Arian- Everything begins with a hobby, then it becomes a passion and when I was 8-9 years old I used to listen to different kinds of songs in various languages. In school, we had a music lesson and we were allowed to play with drums and piano. I used to sit there all the time and explore it. I used to not be aware of it, but still it attracted me. Then, with time I developed interest got a piano for me, I even danced as a background dancer for a lot of singers in Europe. While I moved around with the musician as a dancer I saw what they did and how so I learnt it technically.
Slowly, with time I got connected with a lot of producers and composers in Europe. Only because of my dancing I was a dancer for other artists. This way I learnt many things from different kinds of composers and I put it in my way whatever comes to my mind.

Q Tell us about the languages you know in which you can sing?
Arian- My life started with music and I listen to Turkish, Persian and English music and of course Indian music. I can speak Farsi (Persian Language), German, Swedish, Danish (local language of Denmark) and of course Hindi & English. My father is from Punjab and my mother is from the Persian side of Kashmir. We used to speak Farsi at home and once you understand the music and the feelings behind it and that gets you connected. I try to sing and learn it and slowly I get the urge to know how they did it and I start analyzing the sound. Why were the drums used in it and gradually it becomes more interesting!

Q Why you decided to come back to India?
Arian- The only reason I came back was as I am connected with Indian music. I was born in Mumbai and I know many people from the industry. I was in India last year only for a month to spend some time exploring the market and when I showed them my work they liked it. But I had to go back as I had made a contractual agreement with some label. So, I was not allowed to do any kind of work, then I completed all my work and the contract I had with the company.

Q How you plan and execute your composition?
Arian- Now I am here in India to start through my work and I know I can deliver something. I also have knowledge as it’s important to know about what you’re doing. It’s important to understand how to create the sound. How you can make a song hit and what’s needed to make it alive as there are more than 1000 songs are released every month. There should be some catchable thing that will make your song stand out of the lot. As everything is done right from guitar to piano and synchronize. I know to play basic guitar, but I am good at playing piano and I am more of a melody person.
Well, that’s the idea of creating something new and these are my plans. I can create tune, melodies and I can build the song. I know how to grab the attention, there’s a way to do it. If you the first 15 seconds and last 15 seconds attention and if it’s catchy then the song becomes a hit. So you need to catch the attention of the listener with a decent melody.
Q Any inspiration from Bollywood, singer or actor?
Arian- Today, everyone is so good! Sonu Nigam is my favorite singer I love his song of Fardeen Khan from the movie Khushi- ‘Ishq hai Kya Kuch Nahi Mohabbat’. Then A.R. Rahman’s all his soundtracks and looking at them, I feel they’ve done a good job. Ghajini and Guzaarish have beautiful songs. How can I miss to mention Salman Khan- superstar of Bollywood. I have many Ukrainian friends who love Bollywood music.
Now-a-days everybody is creative and it’s the matter of sound. How you create the tune and what inspires you to music for that particular movie or situation. Everyone can do it with hard-work this is what I believe No one is good or no one is bad! The sound you create is best. I just love the tune because it’s great when you connect with people without knowing the language. It is not like 10 years ago when you had one best singer or two music composers. The songs are important in a movie and work for them. A very good example is Ashiqui 2 though the movie was not that strong. But the songs made the movie a super hit. Since then I imagine when I go to India I have to do this kind of work.

Q Arian will you term yourself as ‘Versatile’ in one word?
Arian- Depends! To be honest, you can call me as a lover of music and entertainment. In real lives people are so busy with their family, tensions and with work. All the positivity and negativity and when you listen to music it just sets you free. I personally ‘Fly into a new world’ listening to music. It’s same with music and movies as it goes hands in hands because when you watch a movie you have to think at a different level.
Go with the flow and not connect with reality as it will turn out to be same again. One needs to just be relaxed and happy in life. So, I feel I am the guy who can create this because I am thinking at this level of humanity. I do it with dedication because sometimes I like to listen to music when I am working on the house. While just cleaning or looking around as I create that mood to build in that emotion or feeling. As I recollect what I did yesterday and from that situation I create songs. It makes you feel comfortable while working and at times when you go to a party. Then a party song clicks, you and in rains a rainy song can hit you. I do songs for a reason.

Q  How you got an opportunity to act in a Bollywood movie?
Arian- Actually, it is a funny story because I was doing a couple of songs for a movie and while in a meeting with the director to present my sound. As I had created 2 songs for the movie and I while I was waiting at their office to show them my work. I was dressed normally like I usually do and then a guy came to me and told me you can go inside. The director wasn’t there I met the producer instead and he asked me which movies have I done. I got clueless and answered, I haven’t done any movie, but I have done a lot of songs in Europe. But that producer kept asking about movies so I got a little confused.
Later, I showed him my music videos in my laptop and he got really impressed. I showed my videos thinking he wants to know about my previous work. While watching in he just said ‘Nice look’ he liked my look in my Danish video and I got puzzled again. He told me your look is perfect for an actor in a lead role and this is how I got the chance to act in the movie. So, I thought why not as I am interested to work in the entertainment field and it needs new faces anyway.

Q Lastly, if given an option in singing or acting career, which will you opt?

Arian- Acting! It gives a different kind of feel and a kick (boost). I like to try doing new things and with I can’t be just one person I can be 500 different personalities with acting. Just imagine it’s so interesting if you get a role that you’ve never done before. It’s kind of challenging to do it each day excites me. Music I can create anytime as its kind of feeling, but acting is an excitement.
